Tyler VanHeukelom is entering his second season assisting Head Coach Rick Schroeder with the Saints and his tenth year of his coaching career. VanHeukelom will primarily work with setters and defensive players as well as helping with film breakdown, evaluating and communicating with future Saints, and day to day team operations.
Tyler was born and raised in West Michigan where he's grown deep roots. He has coached at Allendale, South Christian, and East Grand Rapids High Schools and accumulated two OK-Conference Championships and three District Championships in his four seasons leading up to joining the Aquinas College staff. In the offseason, Tyler coaches youth club volleyball at Michigan Volleyball Academy and travels with his girlfriend, Cami, and their dog, Earl.
Micaela is beginning her first season as a student assistant for Head Coach Rick Schroeder. Hazen will primarily work as a mentor for the team captains and assist with running drills in an effective and efficient manner.
Hazen was born and raised in North Branch and was a part of the very strong Bronco volleyball program. She then competed for two years at Grand Rapids Community College before transferring to Aquinas College. The Saints posted a 37-29 record during her stint on the court and she broke the school record for kills in a match. A 30-kill performance against Concordia on October 12, 2016 etched her name in the Aquinas College record book. At the conclusion of her senior season, Hazen was named All-WHAC Second Team, All-WHAC Academic and a NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete. Micaela and her husband, Austin, live in Grand Rapids.
